Our small alpaca farm is located in Traunfeld, in the Weinviertel region of Lower Austria, about 25 km north of Vienna.
In 2015, our five male alpacas arrived – and before long, our hobby turned into a small but thriving business.
We began by selling duvets made from the fleece of our own animals and also offered a few carefully selected products from APU KUNTUR.
Both we and our customers were impressed by the quality and design, and thanks to the high demand, we were able to continuously expand our product range. We always look forward to the APU KUNTUR trade shows, where Nelly and Matthias Gutknecht and their team present the latest product innovations and are always open to customer feedback.
The creation of beautiful products under fair conditions, along with a reliable and uncomplicated business relationship, has made us loyal and committed customers of APU KUNTUR.

We discovered APU KUNTUR many years ago at the Innatex trade fair. And actually, the stand caught our attention straight away: those distinctive, colourful patterns, the beautiful colour combinations, and these incredibly luxurious, soft materials.
But if we are completely honest, at first we walked past the stand a few times. “Should we? Shouldn’t we? Does it suit us?” Eventually, we were convinced – and ordered our first collection. Fortunately, as it quickly turned out.
For Natur-el and APU KUNTUR, it all started with the LUNA series. In the first year, we were still cautious and, if we remember correctly, bought just five pairs of LUNA wrist warmers. They sold out within a day.
Since then, APU KUNTUR has continued to grow at Natur-el. The first wrist warmers were followed by gloves, leg warmers, ear warmers and other accessories – and APU KUNTUR’s winter collection has now been a permanent part of our range for many years.
Natur-el is an independent sustainable fashion shop in the north of Rotterdam. We love natural materials such as wool and alpaca, but we love colour just as much. And that is exactly one of the reasons why APU KUNTUR suits us so well. The combination of high-quality natural materials with these unmistakable patterns and colours is simply not something you find everywhere. Especially when it comes to accessories, APU KUNTUR consistently manages to design pieces that are warm, soft and practical – while at the same time having something special about them.
Our customers notice this too. The colourful wrist warmers, gloves, leg warmers and ear warmers have now become true Natur-el classics.
What once began with five pairs of wrist warmers has now developed into a long-standing collaboration. We know the collections, we know the quality, and by now we know pretty much exactly which pieces our customers look forward to every year. At the same time, APU KUNTUR continues to surprise us with new colours and designs.
And perhaps that is exactly why the brand still suits Natur-el so well after all these years: beautiful natural materials, fantastic quality – but never boring.
Because for us, sustainable fashion is more than welcome to stand out. And fortunately, APU KUNTUR has understood that for a very long time.

Our collaboration with APU KUNTUR began at a booth at the BEA Expo in Bern in 2008.
After admiring the beautiful alpaca clothing on display, we arranged a meeting with Nelly and Matthias Gutknecht to purchase alpaca garments for our store. Since then, a variety of alpaca garments and accessories made from fine alpaca fiber have found a place in our shop.
In January 2012, we – Hansuli, Alexander, Josua, and I – took a trip through Peru and had the privilege of visiting the APU KUNTUR production facility. We were deeply impressed: selling clothing from a company that ensures fair production and good working conditions for its employees – supporting many families in the process – is something truly meaningful.
Each season, APU KUNTUR creates new styles, fresh designs, and wonderful quality pieces made from baby alpaca. We are proud and passionate resellers of APU KUNTUR!

Sun Star Alpacas GbR is an alpaca breeding farm near Cham in the Bavarian Forest, specializing in the breeding of high-value alpacas.
We regularly exhibit our champion animals at alpaca shows.
It’s important to us to bring the high-quality alpaca fiber of our animals to the public – because everyone should have the chance to enjoy this soft and wonderfully warming natural product.
We hand-knit hats and scarves ourselves at our farm, but we have also been long-time customers of APU KUNTUR products. We are very satisfied with the quality they offer. In 2018, we had the opportunity to visit APU KUNTUR’s newly built production facility in Cusco, Peru.
We were truly impressed by how modern the facility is – especially by Peruvian standards. We received an in-depth tour of the production process and gained a very clear understanding of how our fair products are made in Peru.
The employees seemed extremely content – surely thanks to the strong social conditions in the factory, such as a cafeteria, bright and comfortable workspaces, and respectful treatment of the staff.
By offering APU KUNTUR products, we are also able to give something back to the country of the alpacas – and support it in a meaningful way.

We met Matthias Gutknecht at the ORNARIS trade fair in Zurich in 2011…
We were immediately impressed by the alpaca products – the exceptional quality, the free-roaming animals at 4,000 meters, and the adherence to fair working conditions. We truly enjoy selling such extraordinary products.
That’s why we decided to include APU KUNTUR in the range of our health-focused store. We felt that warmth and health go hand in hand.
Just a week later, we visited the warehouse in Winterthur and purchased socks, wrist warmers, scarves, and hats. For us, it’s a true success story. Each year, we grow alongside APU KUNTUR. It’s always a pleasure to choose the new products.
We love the exceptional quality and are proud to offer such a beautiful product – especially because working with Nelly and Matthias Gutknecht is always a joy.
Fränzi Götz

It all began for us in 2013. The first three alpacas arrived on our farm. Since these animals were more than exotic in our region, they quickly sparked public interest. We started offering short walks with visitors and shared our growing knowledge about the animals. Naturally, there was also increasing demand for alpaca products.
Our alpaca supplier introduced us to APU KUNTUR. We made our first contact – completely inexperienced in the industry. Our first orders were just 2 or 3 alpaca teddies, a few hats, and a couple of pairs of gloves. The first items were stored in a small country cabinet. Soon after, we set up a dedicated sales room on our farm.
APU KUNTUR introduced us to their company philosophy, strategy, and product range – which we then shared with our customers. From the very beginning, we felt understood, and a warm, trusting partnership developed. Our customers truly appreciate the openness and transparency – from the producers all the way to the point of sale.
The products impress with their design and quality. The fair production conditions and honest communication are the foundation of a reliable business relationship. The diverse range meets the needs of everyone from toddlers to adults, offering individuality and timeless alpaca classics: hats, gloves, socks, scarves, ponchos, jackets, vests, cardigans, and organic cotton shirts. Through our deep engagement with alpacas and their products, our customers also develop a strong sense for the quality they’re receiving. APU KUNTUR convinces through excellent craftsmanship and style tailored for the European market.
The steadily growing demand for alpacas and their products led us to continuously expand our shop range. During a personal meeting, we discussed the idea of opening a boutique. Matthias Gutknecht openly and honestly presented us with the opportunities and risks of such a step. We decided to take this step together – and in November 2016, we opened a small boutique in Weitra, right on the town square. We’re now planning to open another boutique in Freistadt, Upper Austria.

We bought our first three alpacas in 2011. Today, our herd consists of 13 animals. We use the fleece from our alpacas to produce custom-made duvets – and we’re proud to say it has been a great success.
In 2013, we came into contact with APU KUNTUR and KUNA at the Alpaca Show in Hapert, through Peter … from Zeeland.
Our interest grew so much that we traveled to the INNATEX trade fair in Frankfurt, where we personally met Matthias Gutknecht and discovered the beautiful alpaca fashion line. It’s no coincidence that alpaca wool is often called the “Gold of the Andes.”
The stunning colors, contemporary cuts, and carefully woven sweaters with beautiful patterns, coats, and scarves leave a lasting impression. The Millennium scarves, in particular, are dreamy and luxurious.
All alpaca clothing is incredibly lightweight and amazingly comfortable to wear. This is thanks to the exceptional properties of alpaca fiber – each hair is hollow, which makes it perfectly insulating. Alpaca clothing isn’t cheap, but anyone familiar with alpaca wool is immediately convinced of the quality. And true quality is worth paying for.
From bed socks, hiking socks, and business socks to scarves, sweaters, coats, cardigans – and even the ultra-exclusive Vicuña products – APU KUNTUR and KUNA offer a premium product line that deserves much more recognition in the Netherlands.
Perhaps we can help raise awareness of APU and KUNA here through the website.
