It all began for us in 2013. The first three alpacas arrived on our farm. Since these animals were more than exotic in our region, they quickly sparked public interest. We started offering short walks with visitors and shared our growing knowledge about the animals. Naturally, there was also increasing demand for alpaca products.
Our alpaca supplier introduced us to APU KUNTUR. We made our first contact – completely inexperienced in the industry. Our first orders were just 2 or 3 alpaca teddies, a few hats, and a couple of pairs of gloves. The first items were stored in a small country cabinet. Soon after, we set up a dedicated sales room on our farm.
APU KUNTUR introduced us to their company philosophy, strategy, and product range – which we then shared with our customers. From the very beginning, we felt understood, and a warm, trusting partnership developed. Matthias Gutknecht openly and honestly presented us with the opportunities and risks of such a step. We decided to take this step together – and in November 2016, we opened a small boutique in Weitra, right on the town square. We’re now planning to open another boutique in Freistadt, Upper Austria.

As a career changer entering the alpaca industry in 2013, I decided not only to breed these wonderful animals but also to market their products.
Our first purchases were made from the “market leader” APU KUNTUR, and we began selling what we called our “Christmas market goods” from our little shop in the basement of our family home. Thanks to our customers’ high satisfaction, we quickly expanded our product range.
As a former buyer in the footwear industry, I analyzed the market – and it quickly became clear to me that APU KUNTUR is truly unique: a full-range provider of high-quality products (with almost no returns), great service, and close collaboration with us as customers.
We are always able to meet growing market demands with ease, thanks to the extensive collections from APU KUNTUR and KUNA. We’ve also benefited significantly from being part of a rapidly growing industry.

We regularly exhibit our champion animals at alpaca shows.
It’s important to us to bring the high-quality alpaca fiber of our animals to the public – because everyone should have the chance to enjoy this soft and wonderfully warming natural product.
We hand-knit hats and scarves ourselves at our farm, but we have also been long-time customers of APU KUNTUR products. We are very satisfied with the quality they offer. In 2018, we had the opportunity to visit APU KUNTUR’s newly built production facility in Cusco, Peru.
We were truly impressed by how modern the facility is – especially by Peruvian standards. We received an in-depth tour of the production process and gained a very clear understanding of how our fair products are made in Peru.
The employees seemed extremely content – surely thanks to the strong social conditions in the factory, such as a cafeteria, bright and comfortable workspaces, and respectful treatment of the staff.
By offering APU KUNTUR products, we are also able to give something back to the country of the alpacas – and support it in a meaningful way.
Our collaboration with APU KUNTUR began at a booth at the BEA Expo in Bern in 2008.
After admiring the beautiful alpaca clothing on display, we arranged a meeting with Nelly and Matthias Gutknecht to purchase alpaca garments for our store. Since then, a variety of alpaca garments and accessories made from fine alpaca fiber have found a place in our shop.
In January 2012, we – Hansuli, Alexander, Josua, and I – took a trip through Peru and had the privilege of visiting the APU KUNTUR production facility. We were deeply impressed: selling clothing from a company that ensures fair production and good working conditions for its employees – supporting many families in the process – is something truly meaningful.
Each season, APU KUNTUR creates new styles, fresh designs, and wonderful quality pieces made from baby alpaca. We are proud and passionate resellers of APU KUNTUR!

We bought our first three alpacas in 2011. Today, our herd consists of 13 animals. We use the fleece from our alpacas to produce custom-made duvets – and we’re proud to say it has been a great success.
In 2013, we came into contact with APU KUNTUR and KUNA at the Alpaca Show in Hapert, through Peter … from Zeeland.
Our interest grew so much that we traveled to the INNATEX trade fair in Frankfurt, where we personally met Matthias Gutknecht and discovered the beautiful alpaca fashion line. It’s no coincidence that alpaca wool is often called the “Gold of the Andes.”
The stunning colors, contemporary cuts, and carefully woven sweaters with beautiful patterns, coats, and scarves leave a lasting impression. The Millennium scarves, in particular, are dreamy and luxurious.
All alpaca clothing is incredibly lightweight and amazingly comfortable to wear. This is thanks to the exceptional properties of alpaca fiber – each hair is hollow, which makes it perfectly insulating. Alpaca clothing isn’t cheap, but anyone familiar with alpaca wool is immediately convinced of the quality. And true quality is worth paying for.

Our first contact with APU KUNTUR dates back to 2004, when we met at an alpaca show in Kreuth.
In 2003, we had acquired our first three female alpacas and visited the show to gather information and make contacts. At the Gutknecht family’s booth, we bought our very first alpaca sweater and knitted cardigan – and were very satisfied with them.
Over the years, we gradually built up our alpaca breeding operation, and in 2009 we opened our own farm shop, offering alpaca products made from our own fleece as well as selected third-party items.
